Tales of the Suburbs at the Curious Minds Festival, Bath

  • Bath Royal, Literary and Scientific Institution 16-18 Queen Square Bath BA1 2HN UK (map)

Hidden histories, suburban secrets and queer lives lived in unexpected places.

The most radical stories are not always found in city centres. Writer and broadcaster John Grindrod turns his attention to the suburbs, challenging the idea that political change and queer culture only happen in urban cores.

Inspired by his new book Tales of the Suburbs, he uncovers the hidden LGBTQ+ lives that existed behind respectable facades - stories that are messy and moving, dark and funny, uplifting and extraordinary. Drawing on his own experiences of growing up queer in suburban Britain, alongside years of cultural research, he joins us to look at reclaiming suburbia as a space for all.

Come and discover places where counter cultural expression thrives despite the Neighbourhood Watch, and queer love and friendship bloom against the odds. Tickets here.
